New Stuff

First post in a while because I've been up to my ears in concepts for a solid week and a half now, but boy do I have some new ideas to show for it.
First off, Cathedral in Hell. A game with a lot of similarities to Heist! though with a darker tone. This one's already got a lot of progress done, so feel free to dive in and look at the raw data, it's all open content for players and operators.
CiH: Rules
CiH: Information
Second, Cosmos. This one has a lot less progress done on it, and is going to be a traditional talk game. I know those haven't had a lot of progress lately, but I'm gonna keep trying. It's back to the rule-of-cool days, in terms of progression and powers, and has a really unique and deep magic system, that will take a long time to explore fully.
Third, more Scenarios and Settings for Heist! I haven't seen a lot (read any) community content, but I'm going to keep putting out new stuff for a while at least, in the hope of sparking some interest. I also definitely want feedback on why you aren't making stuff, but I'm used to not getting any replies to these.
Fourth, URPG, ready to go. URPG 3e had a rough test run last time, since I didn't get to test the balance online, but I've finished the NPCs for levels 1-7 now, and created a simple program to help me run URPG over AIM, compeitively and cooperatively, which should give more chances to play the game.
Fifth, videogames. I'm making them, currently one project in Unity and one in Java. They're both a long way off, but if anyone is interested in helping with either, I'd be happy to hear it.
That's all for now, though I'll probably remember some more tomorrow. If you have any interest in any of this, I'm only going to know if you comment or contact me directly.

  1. I often don't comment here because I can just talk to you through AIM, and these comments occasionally don't work for me for some reason. As always, I'm interested in all of these games and am willing to play and theoretically offer help. I'm mainly limited by time though. If you pick one specific thing you want help on the most, then that will help me focus my free time towards that instead of not knowing how I should be helping. I haven't made a Heist scenario mainly because of lack of time but if you want I can suggest general ideas like train robbery.

  2. How about a spell for increasing amount of actions on your next turn, or an artifact that gives you one bonus action but can only be activated once per turn max.

  3. How much do you care if the rivers are established in myth? Can I just come up with anything that I think would be a cool effect for a river or do I need to do research? Interesting ideas for rivers include turning objects to gold, with a, say, 1/3 chance of attracting anyone who sees it to come closer, if a person goes in, they become blissfully happy and lose all of their actions. Those can be separate or combined, and I can try to come up with a historical connection if you want.

  4. Also, a river of souls which captures any souls that go in, but puts souls into anything that goes in and can be possessed, if a player's soul is trapped, there is a random chance their soul will go into whatever object is possessed.

  5. Sarasvati River is connected to Goddess Saraswati, is referred to as taking souls to the afterlife, and the goddess is associated with protection (defense buff?) fighting poison (anti-disease?) obedience (possession?) and wisdom (somehow spreading information to/about things that touch water?). Zeravshan River is a real river which had gold in it and the name means "sprayer of gold" it can have the gold effect I described above. Aredvi Sura Anahit is the World River and I'm thinking it can have a random artifact effect (random positive artifact makes a bit more sense but is less balanced)

  6. Ifingr is the river separating Asgard from the land of ice giants. Ice cannot form on it and it has an incredibly fast current which makes it impossible to cross. All I can think of is that anything that touches it, object or person, is swiftly carried downstream. Maybe instantly taken to a circle further from chapel? Or maybe just gone forever.

  7. Sillas River is a non-existant river in which it was believed nothing would float, but only sink to the bottom, the implications of this seem pretty obvious. A fountain of youth river could immediately send person or object to their previous stat (losing status effects or regaining old ones) and if they go back to before the beginning of the game they disappear from existence.

  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaitarna_river this river is fucking nuts. I don't even. Just follow the link.

  9. Miskatonic River, from a Lovecraft story: "small island in the Miskatonic where the devil held court beside a curious stone altar older than the Indians." Maybe a random altar effect?

  10. The River Okeanos surrounds the whole world in a great circle, the sun and moon rise and set in it, and it is associated with time. Perhaps anything in the river is swept downstream for 1d6 turns before circling around and being deposited where they went in.

  11. Mnemosyne was the personification of memory and the counterpart to Lethe, I feel like it should be included, maybe having something to do with spreading motive? It's also the mother of the 9 muses, I'm not really sure how that helps though. How exactly does Lethe work?

  12. Chalchiuhtlicue is an Aztec river goddess who doesn't seem to be associated with a particular river, but she does have power over life and death (can kill people, bring dead to life, turn living or dead to zombie) and is also associated with a myth about a flood turning people into fish, and is heavily associated with snakes.

Yam (Sea) also called Judge Nahar (Judge River)is a god of the ocean and rivers. He is also not associated with a specific river, but he represents chaos, which can of course have many meanings in this game (the water imbues chaos?) and his enemy is the god of storms (probably irrelevant but felt like including that)

Sequana is the goddess of the River Seine. People would take sacrifices to her in exchange for being healed. "Wooden and stone images of limbs, internal organs, heads, and complete bodies were offered to her in the hope of a cure, as well as numerous coins and items of jewellery. Respiratory illnesses and eye diseases were common. Pilgrims were frequently depicted as carrying offerings to the goddess, including money, fruit, or a favorite pet dog or bird." I'm thinking that the river will keep any objects that go in, and if a person goes in at the same time it will heal them. If a person goes in without an object, it will mostly heal them but keep a random body part.

  13. Random Event: Dam- river either floods or dries up

Ganges River connects heaven, earth, and the netherworld. It is heavily associated with purification and washing away sins. It is also associated with order. If a dead body touches it, they are forgiven of all of their sins and taken to heaven. I'm not sure exactly how this should work but the association with order can make it a good counterpart to Judge Nahar, and purification of the soul if it touches the body, even if the body is dead, has to be able to work for something.

  14. If plant fertility can have any gameplay effect, you could use Tigris or Euphrates, which were under the domain of Enbilulu, a god of agriculture, who is said to "know the secrets of water" and "of the running of rivers below the earth".
